In fifth grade, students use place value to describe relationships between the digits of numbers and explore patterns that result from multiplication or division by powers of 10. Students define and compare decimals to the thousandths place. With their knowledge of place value, students round decimals to any place and perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with multi-digit numbers and decimals, including by using visual models.
