Common Core Math: Grade 3: Geometry
In third grade, students recognize and classify shapes into hierarchical categories. For example, students recognize that all shapes with four sides are quadrilaterals and that quadrilaterals can be further separated into categories such as squares, rectangles or rhombuses. Students also partition shapes into parts with equal areas and use fractions to express the area of each part in relation to the area of the whole.
